Nurse Clinics

Our nurses are trained to treat minor illnesses and patients should seek to see a nurse for such conditions this gives the doctors more time to deal with complex medical conditions. Some of the ailments the nurses can deal with are as follows:    

• Cystitis, urine infection
• Ear infection, pain
• Eye infection
• Boils, abscesses, cellulitis and skin infections
• Ingrowing toenails
• Contraceptive Pill check and emergency contraception
• Hay fever
• Sore throat, Tonsillitis

Please note that none of the doctors are trained on homeopathy and will not usually expect to give homeopathic medication.

Smoking Cessation

It is never too late to give up smoking.  Our practice nurse Kevin and Health Care Assistant Nick are fully trained to help you give up.  They can give you the information you need and provide you with the nicotine replacement products that are suitable for you. You can see them on a regular basis in order to get the support you need.

Referrals

If your GP thinks it necessary, you will be referred to a consultant. Your doctor will discuss with you what choices of hospital are available, and you may be able to arrange an appointment at your convenience through Choose and Book.

Non-NHS/Private Medical Examinations

In addition to our NHS contract, the practice offers some private medical services, such as the completion of medical reports and examinations for external organisations. 

These services incur charges as they are not part of the practice's committment to the NHS contract.  A list of current fees charged can be obtained from reception. Please note that if your doctor is on leave you may have to wait for medical reports to be completed on his/her return.

Travel Vaccinations

If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel you need to make an appointment with the practice nurse to discuss your travel arrangements.  This will include which countries and areas within countries that you are visiting to determine what vaccinations are required.

It is important to make this initial appointment as early as possible  - at least 6 weeks before you travel - as a second appointment will be required with the practice nurse to actually receive the vaccinations.  These vaccines have to be ordered as they are not a stock vaccine.  Your second appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work.

Most travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge.  This is because travel vaccination is not included in the services provided by the NHS and therefore is a chargeable service.
